7. Sonnet in Google Classroom

7. Sonnet

Two households, both alike in dignity,
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.
From forth the fatal loins of these two foes
A pair of star-cross’d lovers take their life;
Whose misadventured piteous overthrows
Do with their death bury their parents’ strife.
The fearful passage of their death-mark’d love,
And the continuance of their parents’ rage,
Which, but their children’s end, nought could remove,
Is now the two hours’ traffic of our stage;
The which if you with patient ears attend,
What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend.

5. Ballad

"Annabel Lee"

I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea,
But we loved with a love that was more than love—
I and my Annabel Lee—
With a love that the wingèd seraphs of Heaven
Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;

So that her highborn kinsmen came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.

Examples -

1) "The First Time We Kissed" by Kelly Roper

Nervously I stood there under the porch lightAs you smiled at me and moved in closer.
You took me in your arms, and my heart began to thud so loudly
I was sure you could hear it but were pretending you didn't.
You moistened your lips, looked deeply into my eyes,
And then gently pressed your lips to mine.
A moment's pause, and you touched my lips with yours again,
A whisper of a kiss that promised more to come.
We kissed again, and during that kiss I felt like I had finally come home.
Looking back, I know I was right as we kiss goodnight and I turn out the light.

2)"Fog" by Carl Sandburg

The fog comes
on little cat feet.
It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.

3) "Endless Self-Doubt" by Kelly Roper

Am I good enough?
I'm not really sure.
In fact, I'm sure I'm probably not.
What made me think I could write this poem?
Everyone will laugh at it when they read it,
Or worse, they will be silent and hold their criticism in.
Or worse yet, they'll say exactly what they think and I'll be crushed.
Or worst of all, they'll tell me it's great but not mean it.
And even if they truly love it, I'll still wonder if it's good enough

4) "An Ode to Coffee" by Kelly Roper

Beautiful brown liquid steaming in my cup,
Becoming a muddy river as I stir in the cream.
The aroma that gives me courage,
The flavor that tastes like hope for a better day,
And the energy that renews my will to live.
Tomorrow morning we'll do it all again my friend.

Romeo & Juliet Soundrack Project in Google Classroom

Romeo & Juliet Soundrack Project

Imagine you have been asked to work on a new film adaptation of "Romeo and Juliet." Your job is to bring your musical expertise to a short film adaptation by creating the "script," "Soundtrack," and "virtual storyboard."

For this project, you must choose AT LEAST 5 songs to be part of your short film adaptation.

For this project, you must turn in a completed script for the short film adaptation of "Romeo and Juliet" and a "Virtual Storyboard."

In 4-6 minutes, you should tell your own musical adaptation of "Romeo and Juliet." Use James Cordon's video as a example. Identify in your script which scene the song goes with.

You may choose any music you like, as long it is appropriate and the choices fit with the scene.

*For example:
"Just Dance" by Lady Gaga for the dance scene.

Guideliens:
- Script should be 4-6 minutes in length, tell the story from beginning to end, and should include at least 5 songs.
- Songs do not need to be the song in entirety, but can be partial lines, verses, or choruses that make sense in the context of the story.
- Lyrics and stage directions should be found in your script
- The Virtual Storyboard should include images for locations and the songs playing on each slide that take us through your movie. You can use google slides for this!
- You make work with a partner if you choose.

Points:
- Completed Script: 25 points
- Video: 25 points

Total: 50 points

- Write the communication using the language of the times and the plot from the play.
- Use at least 1 quote from the play that the character you chose says.

Dear Friar Lawrence,
How am I ever going to tell my parents what I have done? Is there no way out of this desperate union to Paris? Contact Romeo and tell him of my plight. Tell him if he loves me, he will come upon his noble steed to rescue me. I will meet him outside my father’s villa at four in the morn on Wednesday next. We will leave and to Mantua go and stay making a life for ourselves. I must abandon your plan since I have come to my senses and realize it will have ghostly ends, Friar. After many months, we will contact you again, at this time you may go to my father and mother and explain my absence. Until then, you must stay mute. Quickly go to Romeo, do your duty, time is of the essence. "Love give me strength and strength shall help afford."
