DBHS to Host Food Truck Event (Saturday, Feb 11)

Bring your appetite on Saturday, February 11, to DBHS’s first ever Wheel Food Fest! The event will take place from 11am to 3pm in the school’s parking lot and the gourmet food trucks will include Don Chow’s Taco’s, the NomNom Truck, Sweet E’s Bake Shop, the Jogasaki Sushi Burrito Truck, and more. The admission donation is $2.00 for adults, $1.00 for students, and children under 5 years old are admitted free. No outside food or beverages are permitted. DB Forum is Back! DB Forum is a full-day student conference which will be held on Monday, February 27th in the DBHS gym. This is a fun event you don’t want to miss. Walnut Valley Annual 5K Run-Walk & 1K Fun-Run (Sunday, Mar 4)

3rd Annual WVUSD 5K/1K Fun Run/Walk

Join us for a weekend filled with Food, Fitness and Fun. Parents, students, families, teachers, staff and community members will be assembling to celebrate our exemplary school district.

Now in its third year, the WVUSD 5K/1K Fun Run/Walk was established in an effort to bring all WVUSD schools together for a district-wide celebration. With the support and sponsorship of the Walnut Valley Educational Foundation, an independent, non-profit organization, this event has helped to raise and distribute more than $85,000 to Walnut Valley Unified schools.

Past funds have supported our schools in purchasing:

Innovative technology such as new computers, iPad Educational Apps, student response remotes and LCD Projectors.
Fitness Equipment for PE and Athletic programs, such as Heart Rate Monitors and Weight Benches.
Funding for school Arts, Music and Athletics Programs.
New reading materials for school libraries.
Teacher Grants to support new programs

The 2012 Film Contest is underway. The best films will be shown at the Film Festival on April 20^th. Please make sure you read the official rules before you begin filming. All films and entry forms are due no later than March 28^th.

Cell Phone / Electronic Device Policy

Cell Phones are not to be turned on or used during classtime or passing periods. You may use your cell phone during brunch and lunch only. From the time you arrive on our campus until you leave the gates at the end of your school day the phone should be powered down except during brunch and lunch. Other electronic devices should not be used at all during the school day. SWAPS or suspensions for habitual violations will result. (Glc Team)

SENIORS: This Week's Reminders

The Gary Duenas Memorial Scholarship – Mr. Duenas was the GLC for the DBHS Class of 1985, and his former students created a scholarship in honor of his memory. This is a great opportunity because this scholarship is only open to DBHS seniors! Any DBHS senior can apply and use the $1000 award for the university, community college, or trade school of his or her choice. You can find more information at www.facebook.com/groups/MrDScholarship (mention that you are a DBHS senior). You can also pick up application instructions in Mr. Desmond’s office. Applications will be accepted from January 30 – March 30, 2012. (Glc’s)

Brea Community Hospital Women’s Auxiliary Scholarship – This is another scholarship that is only available to DBHS seniors. There will be two $270 awards. If you are planning on going into the medical field, write a brief explanation of your future aspirations and submit your Senior Profile to Mr. Desmond by March 30th, 2012. (Glc’s)

Cal Grant GPA Verification Forms Available...Cal Grant GPA Verification Forms..Cal Grant GPA Verification forms are now available in the Guidance Office. Seniors interested in filing a Cal Grant Verification form should pick up the form in Guidance, fill out the “Student Section” and turn into Mrs. Taylor. It will take 2 days for Guidance to complete the “School Section” of the form. Completed forms must be pick up by the student and postmarked no later than March 2, 2012. (Taylor)

ATTN SENIORS who would like to apply to FULLERTON JUNIOR COLLEGE. Please note that you may start applying on line at www.fullcoll.edu starting MARCH 1st. You will be responsible for the application process on your own, however, if you have any questions, please see your GLC or Ms. Carson in the Career Center

Mt. Sac SPECIAL ADMIT PROGRAM allows 11th and 12th grade students to take a college class during the SPRING SEMESTER. The process to apply involves a packet which must be completely filled out, a GLC signature, an Approval Session and possibly PLACEMENT TESTING. SPACE IS VERY LIMITED, so please pick up your packet from the Career Center or your GLC as soon as possible. This packet may also be downloaded from www.mtsac.edu. The Approval Session is FEB. 13, 2012, so DON'T DELAY , get started on your packet TODAY!

Teen Volunteer Program-Cedars -Sinai

Students, would you like to be involved as a Teen Volunteer at Cedars-Sinai Hospital? Teens are eligible to apply to be a volunteer at Cedars-Sinai only once a year! You will need to apply, go through an interview process and be selected. Once selected you are set for the year with Cedars-Sinai. Applications for this program are available online for a LIMITED time only starting February 1st.
